Introducing Bailey

Bailey came into rescue with a large lump on his neck. He was also vastly overweight. He is 7 years old and neutered and a lovely natured chap. For some unknown reason Bailey is also very scared of Vets in white coats!
Bailey was taken to the Vets where 3 biopsys were taken and sent for analysis and some fluid was drained from the lump. We also found Bailey a foster home as the kennels were not the right environment for this chap whilst he was having treatment.
It was hoped that this lump is was not in the Lymph glands and hopefully in the saliva glands which can have surgery. Bailey had a drain inseted into his neck and the wait for the biopsy results began. Being Christmas time this would be 3 weeks!
Eventually the results came back confirming this was not cancer - a sigh of relief for all following Baileys progress! A consultation was arranged with a more senior vet for 17th January to discuss the operation needed to sort Bailey out.
Bailey went for his consultation with the vet on 17th Jan.
The good news is that Stuart and family who are fostering him are happy to keep Bailey so his future is secure. Obviously though, we have committed to pay for the surgery he so desperately needs.. When Bailey went to Stuarts, he weighed a massive 8 stone 3 lbs but with a careful diet and exercise he is now down to 7 stone 7 lbs which is marvellous and a credit to his foster family.
Bailey has a large Growth on his face and infected lymph glands. Had this been treated at its onset, treatment would have been much easier and cheaper but this was unfortunately not the case. Fortunately for Bailey, he will have a lovely life ahead of him when his treatment is complete. The operation he needs is a delicate one, The main danger is that the lump is very near major blood vessels and artery, and also very close to the facial nervous system. The risks are that if the main artery is damaged Bailey may not make it, and if there is nerver damage he may be left with some facial paralysis.
The Vet is very aware of the seriousness of the surgery and will act accordingly but is confident that the operation, whilst having many risks, is viable and is confident the outcome will be positive.
All things considered, its a risk that needs taking as Bailey needs to have the surgery and this will take place on Monday the 26th of January.
I am sure we will be all hoping and praying the dear boy survives because I am told he is the most lovable chap and all that meet him love him.
The Cost is obviously going to be far and above a thousand pounds at an estimate and that is not taking into consideration aftercare visits etc..
We are all so grateful for your kindness and generosity in donation to help bailey get well.
Monday 26th - Surgery day
Baileys operation is over and he has done well. The vet found a blocked saliva gland that had been left for a very long time so the build up was bad. He has stitches and a drain in and he has to go back to the vet on Wednesday and again on Monday for post operation checks. Hopefully he can come home later on today.
29th Jan
Just to let you know that Bailey had a good report from the vet last night . Stuart has been at home with him today and he is doing really well. His drain is coming out tomorrow evening (Friday) so we are very pleased. The vet is delighted at his progress and he is back to his usual walks and eating his 2 meals per day! He is such a character and even lay on his back for the girls at the vet to tickle his tummy!
Will keep you informed of progress...
Best regards
Amanda
