An early xmas present for Sam

Sam is a lovely yelllow lad who, unfortunatley lost his home when his owner died. He was taken in by friends of the family but realistically, they were not in a position to give him the life he was used to and approached the rescue for help.

Sam was collected by Adrian who was going to foster Sam whilst a home was found for him - however, things don't quite seem to be ending up as intended!!

Read Adrians message to Glenys below:

Hi Glenys,

Well...........Tuesday when I collected him was a bit traumatic for all concerned, as you might imagine.

Poor old Sam had been living on a working farm, living in a barn alongside working Border Collies, which was totally different to what he had been used to as a pet.

As you may recall, the farmer & his wife were friends of the bereaved family, and were obviously extremely fond of Sam, but with the best will in the World, just did not have the time or space in their home for an elderly pet Lab.

I got quite a grilling about Lab Rescue, and the type of person who may end up adopting Sam (quite rightly). But the lad himself was an absolute live wire, rocketing round the farmyard like a lunatic, and not like the 13 year old + that I had been expecting.

He is 13 years & 6 months old. Anyway, he hopped straight in my car, and we headed home via Pets at Home for a new bed, brush and dog shampoo.

At my house he had a bit of a tidy up, and was so good about it all, especially with a stranger in a strange environment. His tail didn't stop wagging. And since then, I've discovered that he is a really special dog. So full of life and excitement, he just doesn't seem his age at all. He is a dream to walk - to heel on or off lead except when he is running after sticks (a lot). Not bothered at all by other people, dogs or traffic.

He has only been with me for 2 days, and already I've had so much fun, laughter and love from him. Can you guess where this is going??!!

So I think I may be about to fail as a Fosterer. However, I have so little experience of Labs in general, let alone elderly ones. Sam seems so fit and healthy, with no excess weight on him, but I don't really know what I may be letting myself in for in terms of life expectancy (obviously not long) and potential ailments to watch out for (or Vets bills). I'd really like to bring him up to MKF for you to have a look at him and give me some advice. What do you think? Or maybe you had someone lined up for him already?

I'll send some pics seperately.

Best wishes,

Adrian.

Santa has come early for old Sam and given him a wonderful home with Adrian..
