A Thank You From Zak & Us

Post by LabLover »

Hi Everyone,

We just want to say a big thank you for all your kind messages at this difficult time and for keeping our beloved boy in your thoughts and prayers, it means a lot to us all. We also want to say thank you to our special friends Michelle and Mark for their support.

We have to say it was a huge shock as Zak didn't have any physical signs on the outside that he was suffering from lymphoma and had he not been referred with his eye to Liverpool our boy would only have had weeks left to live as it was at stage 5. Also the specialist gave us 2 options with his eye either leave it and go back in 3 months as apparently Horners Sydrome can right itself in 3 to 6 months or to CT scan that day, we feel so lucky that we made that choice to CT scan him and by pure luck as the specialist said they found abnormalities in his spleen and liver.

In a way we feel someone was looking out for Zak as although not curable and even though it is stage 5 luckily it was treatable still with chemo and hopefully will give us extra time with of our beloved boy, they estimate 8 to 10 months but could be less. What we have said is that if at anytime the chemo affects Zak quality of life in way we will stop it and let him go peacefully when the time is right.

We are on weekly visits to Liverpool now and providing Zak has enough good white blood cells he can have his chemo, after 8 weeks we will have to take him every 2 weeks but a short price to pay if Zak still has the quality of life he's used to. We are amazed as you wouldn't think there was anything wrong and he's not had any side effects which is good but they do say it's different in digs then humans as the dosage is much lower.

As you can imagine we are devasted and as hard as it is we we are trying to enjoy every precious day we have left with our beloved Zak and know like with Milo he will leave us with a shattered heart when the time comes.

Thank you all again and please can we ask you continue to keep our beloved boy in your thoughts and prayers.

Love Amanda, Jim Zak and Little Max xxxxx

We were truly shocked at your news, knowing you were taking Zak to the specialist for horners, never in a million years expecting you to find he was so ill. Harder to imagine how you must be feeling. We know you will do everything possible for your boy, we know you will also make the hardest decision of all at the right time, because you love your boy so much.

Squeeze every precious moment, treasure every minute, as we know you will, stay strong for your boy and each other. We will stay strong for you, you know where we are for anything you need.

In our thoughts and prayers, give both your boys hugs from us.

Lots of love

It's a tough time Amanda and I know how much your boys have all meant to you. They have all been so lucky to have had the most fantastic home a dog could wish for.

I'm glad Zak is feeling well, and that's all that matters. Enjoy and treasure every minute. For Zak, it's all as normal, and with your care you may have him for a good while yet. I hope so.

I'll be thinking of you all, and send big hugs along with an extra big one for Max, bless him. :bighug: :bighug: :bighug: :bighug:

Take care.

Thank-you for the update Amanda. Its very brave of you to share with us and of course I'll continue to keep your beloved boy in my thoughts, all of you in fact.
I know what a difficult time this must be for you but try and take some comfort from knowing that Zak does not know anything is different in his world and he is content in your love and care.
Hugs to Zak and Max,

Thank you for the update Amanda. So sorry there is nothing that can cure Zac but hopefully you will be able to enjoy him for a long while yet. My friend is a vet and she says labs are the most stoic of dogs and will only let you know something is wrong when they are really suffering - not necessary a good trait :( Sending you all big hugs and best wishes.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for all your lovely messages, they mean a lot at this difficult time but main thing is Zak Is still his happy self bless him and totally unaware of what's wrong with him.

Please can we ask for more positive thoughts tomorrow and that he still has enough good white blood cells for chemo and more than anything that his abnormal white cells have reduced dramatically to last week.

Thank you.

Amanda, I was upset to read about Zac's illness. I hope he is still carrying on as normal and that his chemo is going as well as possible. Thinking of you all and :bighug: for your darling Zac.
