VICKY

Post by Glenys »

I asked Ian to create this thread and would like to share some of my poems starting with the first one I ever wrote in the dark days when I lost my very First Labrador Vicky. She was with me through some very sad times in my life but also some happy ones.
Maybe we love all our dogs in our lives but there is always one which get under your skin and no matter how many years come and go and how many pets share your life she is the one that can still bring the tears flowing, yes even after so many years tears are not far from the surface when you think of her, sometimes tears of sadness sometimes of happiness when you are reminded of a funny moment that makes you smile.
Here is my tribute to Vicky.

I will add more as the days go on and invite people to share theirs also

For Vicky
Describe the loss of a beloved dog
I.’m not sure but I’ll try
But first I’ll get some tissues
for when I start to cry
then look back over all the years
twelve in all
wipe away my tears
and then start to recall
There was the day my Son was born
I had to leave her so forlorn
Her look just said will you be o k ?
Will you be back some time today ?
Then the time my Child was ill,
I was up and down the stairs
Who kept a vigil by his Bed
Curled up on the old armchair

Lots of years together
Lots of good and bad
But I can honestly tell you
She was the best friend I ever had
She brought our family happiness
A "Doggy Mum " to MY Children
Best friend to all the rest.

Suddenly she slows down
can’t seem to walk so far
instead of walking to the woods
I take her in the car
And all at once she looks so grey
and finally she is ill
You know the words the Vet will say
But hope he never will
So you say goodbye to your old friend
and sit by her until the end
She goes to rest with those above
and takes there with you all your love

Another dog shares my supper now
and sleeps beside my bed
But I know my old girls here too
she is in my heart and in my head
To all the world she was just a dog
but I know different see
Never was a show girl
but a champion to me

Magic Ship To Heaven

Post by Glenys »

When Vicky Died My son was very young he was sad because he felt that he wouldnt see her again and that she would cease to exist so the next Poem Magic Ship to Heaven was written for Gareth so he would feel better about where she was.(I put the treats and milk in the poem becuaes Gareth New she liked them before bed and always got milk even if there was only a tiny bit left in the fridge she had to have that :)

The Magic Ship to Heaven

Climb aboard the magic ship, and soar up to the skies
go through some lovely golden gates
You wont believe your eyes
All your beloved precious pets
Much loved dogs and cats are there
Running jumping having fun
Waiting for you to come and share
this lovely peaceful quiet home
Fields and mountains safe to roam
no fast cars to harm our pets
never any need for Vets
Thers lots of lovely treats and Milk
Theres fluffy clouds made of silk
for them to rest on when they tire
Its never cold, dont need a fire

So when you lose your precious friend
You shed your tears but its not the end
for they are with you still you know
in every place where you may go
their love is there just the same
you know they’re here just call their name
and feel the warmth of all their love
come pouring through and through
They went to sleep ‘cause they were tired
But they are watching over you
