An Old Dogs Request
When I am old my coat is grey
One extra quilted would keep the cold at bay
Patterned ,plain or tartan would suffice
But waterproof would be very nice
Perhaps agentle walk through fields of heather with my quilted coat I wouldnt mind the weather
I'd even love a romp in the snow
Chasing snowballs that you throw
Lie by the fire, curled up at your feet
and when Im warm join you on the seat
Contented thoughts will drift accross my mind
Not thoughts you would have
But the doggy sort of kind
To stretch out in the sun on sunny days
by my favourite treeI'll doze and watch its rays
then in the evening watch the fireflies
as they dart beneath the darkening skies
But when I'm old,one thing I ask of you
and it may well be the hardest thing you do
Please, let me leave this life with dignity
Please have the courage to set me free
Sit beside me I'll know your near
gently stroke my head, but never fear
I'll know that out of love you've sent me home
and with your love in heavens fields I'll roam
When this time comes,I'll walk through country lanes
Old eyes will see.i'll be free from pain
Know that by your side I will not stray
Look into your heart I'll be there every day.
