Chip, my darling boy

Post by mybiglad »

I wish that I was with you
On that fateful day
To hold you tight, to sooth you
As you slipped away

All the time I think of you
My loyal, faithful friend
Forever will regret
My absence at the end

Your deep brown eyes
That wagging tail
Your snores
Your sniffles and love
That licking sound
Your heavy breath
And those stinky paws!

I wish I could have reached you
When I saw you in my dream
Though a huge fence came between us
But you were happy so it seemed

Almost 4 months on my eyes are wet
I think of you once more
How I miss you handsome man
When I walk through the door
No longer here to greet me
Or to bring me a gift
I wish this sadness would leave me
And the bleak times would lift

I speak to you when I'm alone
I feel you in the breeze
Occasionally something will catch my eye
Close by in the trees
I know you're out there somewhere
Watching over me
I miss you more than anything
Why did you have to leave

How I wish that I was with you
On that fateful day
To hold you tight
To sooth you
As you slipped away

Your beautiful poem has brought tears to my eyes. We miss them so much don't we, when our faithful friends are no longer with us.

Beautiful words, made me weep a little too.. Chip was clearly a very much loved boy and he will be forever in your heart :love2:
I was wracked with guilt that I hadn't been with Willow when she passed away (unexpectedly, during the night). I would say it took me a good 6 months before I felt over the worst of the grief, so can relate to how you are feeling. Contacting this wonderful rescue and being matched with my beloved Toby was the best thing that could have happened. He couldn't be more different from Willow but he has been the best tonic and has become our beloved boy; so special in his own right :love2:

Beautiful words that resurrect thoughts and feelings that we all share. Chip clearly was a special boy, much loved and missed. It's such a quandary when they leave us - sometimes we are the ones that perform the ultimate act of kindness and let them go and sometimes they go of their own accord. Either way, I think we all have that tinge of guilt and regret - if only.........
