MOTHERS

1. My mother taught me TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE .
'If you're going to kill each other, do it outside. I just finished cleaning.'

2. My mother taught me RELIGION.
'You better pray that will come out of the carpet.'

3. My mother taught me about TIME TRAVEL .
'If you don't straighten up, I'm going to knock you into the middle of next week!'

4. My mother taught me LOGIC.
' Because I said so, that's why.'

5. My mother taught me MORE LOGIC.
'If you fall out of that swing and break your neck, you're not going to the store with me.'

6. My mother taught me FORESIGHT.
'Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you're in an accident.'

7. My mother taught me IRONY
'Keep crying, and I'll give you something to cry about.'

8. My mother taught me about the science of OSMOSIS .
'Shut your mouth and eat your supper.'

9. My mother taught me about CONTORTIONISM.
'Will you look at that dirt on the back of your neck!'

10. My mother taught me about STAMINA.
'You'll sit there until all that spinach is gone.'

11. My mother taught me about WEATHER .
'This room of yours looks as if a tornado went through it.'

12. My mother taught me about HYPOCRISY.
'If I told you once, I've told you a million times. Don't exaggerate!'

13. My mother taught me the CIRCLE OF LIFE.
'I brought you into this world, and I can take you out.'

14. My mother taught me about BEHAVIOUR MODIFICATIO N.
'Stop acting like your father!'

15. My mother taught me about ENVY .
'There are millions of less fortunate children in this world who don't have wonderful parents like you do.'

16. My mother taught me about ANTICIPATION.
'Just wait until we get home.'

17. My mother taught me about RECEIVING .
'You are going to get it when you get home!'

18. My mother taught me MEDICAL SCIENCE.
'If you don't stop crossing your eyes, they are going to freeze that way.'

19. My mother taught me ESP.
'Put your sweater on; don't you think I know when you are cold?'

20. My mother taught me HUMOUR .
'W hen that lawn mower cuts off your toes, don't come running to me.'

21. My mother taught me HOW TO BECOME AN ADULT .
'If you don't eat your vegetables, you'll never grow up.'

22. My mother taught me GENETICS.
'You're just like your father.'

23. My mother taught me about my ROOTS .
'Shut that door behind you. Do you think you were born in a barn?'

24. My mother taught me WISDOM.
'When you get to be my age, you'll understand.'

25. And my favorite: My mother taught me about JUSTICE
'One day you'll have kids, and I hope they turn out just like you

When I think how I was brought up my Mother would be in Jail now with this days Laws.............she used to say go out and dont come back till tea time !!!
I also remember the being knocked into middle of next week :)

But we grew up to be honest, fair and law-abiding citizens with a bit of discipline didn't we!
I cringe at the "greens", it took me years to start eating them voluntarily and now I grow them before I eat (and enjoy) them!

Same here glenys, i remember being left to our own devices all summer holidays cos mum was at work all day, we used to wander the countyside all day without a care in the world, and i remember having my backside smacked all the way along our street cos i was cheeky to an old man at the end of the road and he told my mum, funny but i can never remember my dad ever telling me off or smacking me, it was always mum, thats probably why i have such fond memories of dad and not so fond ones of my mum, jan xx

Me too Jan my dad died when I was twelve but I never remember him raising a hand to me my Mother on the other hand !!!!! in fact thats what caused my hearing problem (apparantly) she always aimed for the head

I think with my experience it made me a better Mum

my dad died when i was 14 Glenys, i left home at 15 and vowed that i would always be there for my kids, trouble is their all in their mid thirties now and still come running for mum, (cant complain tho, i'd be more worried if they didnt)

I didn't get on well with my mum when I was a child as she was the disciplinarian but we get on really well now. I only ever remember her slapping my leg once but boy did she have a sharp tongue. Dad never raised his voice or laid a hand on me and I miss him like mad. He died 19 years ago.

My mother was wonderful, and my dad is too, I was adopted, and I think I am one of the most lucky people around to have these kind loving parents. They taught me many things respect of others and myself, the law, discipline, honesty, but most of all they taught me love,
What more can I say, I miss my mum every day and I love my dad dearly.

I know what you mean Gail - my parents taught me exactly the same and I am who I am because of them and I thank them.

I still miss my mum every day and love my dad to bits. The roles are now reversed between us and I look after him - it does seem strange to be the matriach

You are close to lots of other people Glenys including all your friends at the rescue and your own family. You learned from others to become the person you are.
