Old girl

Post by Glenys »

From an Old Girl.

( I'm an old girl now I need you to know
Sometimes I can't walk quite as fast as you go )

My mind tends to wonder and I'm quite delighted
to be sniffing and ambling away
It suits me just fine and I'm very happy
Whilst the young dogs just run off and play

I remember the years when I was much younger
Exploring the paths and fields on the way
Enjoying the journeys we travelled together
Making adventures we shared everyday

Now that I'm old I love nothing more
Than to take each new day in my stride
And should I be slower , no need to hurry
I am just happy to be by your side

I Simply ask that you love me forever
Though I may be no longer here
Treasure the memories we create together
And thank you for each precious year

Beautiful Glenys, brings back so many memories of my 3 old girls now at the bridge and my old boy too. i remember the way they looked at me as they ambled along, they may have had old legs but their hearts were still full of love which i was lucky enough to share, leaking eyes here too.

Tears here too as I think about my beautiful black baby girl, as she got older a walk around the block and she was happy. Then eventually she would get to the end of the road and sit down telling me *mum that's enough*...

Keep running free beautiful Jet we still think of you gorgeous girl

Lovely. Memories of my old girl, Holly - so happy in spite of her age and increasing weakness. Leaky eyes here now - she's missed so much even after six months - but so many happy memories too. Thank you Glenys.

Love, Ruth

Thank you for reading the poem inspired by Nell :1972:

I think we tend to sometimes not notice that our dogs get old and often we will set off and of course they are eager to go but very quickly slow down and our younger dogs are setting the pace we noticed this recently with Nell and she makes me almost fill up watching her just ambling and sniffing and taking her time and looking up at me with her lovely old face and wonder how long we can have these precious times so she goes out on her own with me and then she gets on the sofa or her bed and dozes .

Then she can have the energy to raid cupboards while we are in bed :2008:

We treasure all our dogs but the oldies are so very special.

You are so right, Glenys - the oldies are very special.
Your lovely poem brought back many happy (and some sad) memories of my beautiful Meg.
We were talking the other day of the day we knew for sure that she was deaf. When my children were small, they had one of those 'mouth pianos' from the Early Learning Centre. When any of them blew into it to play a tune, she would 'sing' along. It was really hilarious. Then they outgrew it and it was lost for a few years. When Meg was about 13 it turned up again and we wanted to show a friend how Meg could sing, so we played a tune on it but she just looked at it and was completely silent. It was as if she was saying "Well go on, play it then". But she couldn't hear it. It was so sad.
Oh dear. Leaky eyes here too. :cry3:
Make the most of every day ….
