Jet - The little girl lost.

Post by baileysmum »

You have all probably seen the tale of a little girl who was found on saturday morning, and brought into rescue by Kathy (chocdrop) and who was picked up by me on Sunday to look after. Neil has christened her Jet as she is "Jet" black.

I thought I would post a photo, they can be a little bit upsetting on first look but she is happy in herself. But she is off sometime this week to see an eye specialist Rescue to the Rescue again.

What a lovely girl she is. Do you know what is wrong with her eyes?

We are summising she was dumped she has a very bad eye condition she is almost certainly blind in one eye we will get the best of care for her and with the TLC from karen and Neil and of course Bailey we will do our very best to help her.
She is a little star and she deserves the very best we can do for her.

At this stage a new home would be almost impossible till we find out exactly what is wrong with her eyes if its GPRA she will go blind I have asked John to look at the photos he is pretty well genned up on eye deseases.
Eye problems are a big problem in Labradors which is why decent breeders eye test all their breeding dogs sadly many backyard or puppy farmers do not.

We will get her to an eye specialist asap the vet that saw her today said he had not seen anything like this girls eyes.

Rest assured the rescue will provide whatever Jet and karen need to provide the very best for her and lets all keep her in our thoughts.

I have an eye problem at the moment and its flipping painful so Goodness knows how this girl has coped with hers.

I dont think GPRA Glenys, I think it's almost certainly "Cherry Eye" which is a prolapse of a gland in the third eyelid. I've got to say, it's very rare in Labradors. It is operable without too much problem, but it's a question whether an ordinary vet would do it or whether you would need a specialist.

Have a look at:- http://www.fordogssake.co.uk/shop/infor ... nfo_id=209 Does it look like this one? If not can you zoom in a bit on one eye and post the picture please?

Yes it can be bilateral. In fact the only one I've seen was. (a Bulldog) It is an operation, either to remove the gland or to secure it back into place. Properly done it's usually very sucessful.

There is a very good eye specialist in Frodsham who did Minni's eye. They were recommended to us by our vet because they were both good and reasonable. Here is their web site.

.

I found this sight on Sunday when I was looking for anything similar to her eyes, and it is the one that my vet will be referring her to once I place the call later this morning. It is always good to have some feedback though.
Even though my vet's are very good sometimes some things can just stump them and they need further help. I must admit I am glad that they were honest enough to admit that they weren't sure and suggested a specialist as this in the long run will save time and money by not guessing and giving her various medications etc.

Will keep you all posted.
