Hello, I have kept labs for over 35yrs.Apart from the first two all have been rescue or re-homed.
one yellow lab I adopted thro Glenys and she was beautiful (lab not Glenys!) Oops think im digging a hole for myself! Anyway `Spice` lived beyond 15yrs.
Enter Dooley another yellow he was intercepted by us before he was going to rescue centre (word of mouth via dog kennel) in fact we homed him prior to Spice moving on.
Sadly Dooley was put to sleep on the 27th December.
We do have a re-homed black lab but we are keen to find her a companion.
We live in a rural village in cumbria the beach is 5 minutes by car.Public footpath along the river Irt 2 min walk or upstream 5 mins.
My daughter many years ago wrote a poem that Glenys put in the news letter!!

Welcome back.

Most of us (if not all of us) on here know how it feels to lose a furbaby. Glad you feel ready to take another into your hearts. :bighug:

Wishing you and yours:-

That is lovely thank you.....Happy New Year for tomorrow!
So the remaining black lab Ruby lou (the naughtiest dog in the world) is 12+ and going well. But with that in mind thinking the sensible option would be to find a lab not too young think 2 to 4 yrs old would be ideal but all considered.
The next time would like a puppy because Im taking early retirement in 2019..........yippee!!

I'm sorry that you have said goodbye to your boy Dooley, a sad time for you, but it sounds like he had a great life and has left you with very special memories.
Hope you are able to find a companion for Ruby in the new year,
Sleep tight Dooley,
