Milly

Last week we adopted the lovely Milly, shown here with her partner in crime, Blake. He's the one who was a Guide Dog for two years before deciding that he'd rather be at home chasing rabbits!

We've been amazed at how quickly she has settled in and she really is a super little girl (she is two and Blake is seven). For a couple of days there was a bit of 'jostling for position' between them but now they are happy to share everything.

Many thanks to all at MKF for letting us have such a lovely dog. :1941:

Blake has been home for three years but I have had a guide dog puppy in that time. The puppy left me last August so he has been on his own again since then.

I have tried to make sure that I am in pole position but neither of them is particularly dominant. They each stick to their own bed and are fed in separate rooms at the moment so there is no competition there. Milly needs a bit of training, sometimes they do this together because she learns from Blake and other times I take her out for a lead walk on her own as she was pulling a bit when I first got her.

When I am giving treats I always say their names - 'this one is for Milly, this one is for Blake' and I vary the order regularly. they soon get used to waiting for their turn.

I keep 'special toys' for when they are running free as dogs tend to be less competitive in big open spaces. They will both chase after a ball or squeaky toy and whoever gets it first seems to invite the other one to chase!! In the house they have toys they can chew which Blake isn't really bothered about.

Hope this helps anyone who is interested in getting another dog.
