Charlie (now called George)

Guess what!!!! From yesterday, Charlie, has a new mum and dad and he is absolutely gorgeous. We will be changing his name as he is so gorgeous to George - gorgeous George - we think it suits him :1941:

We can't believe it, yesterday, he travelled home with us for 2 1/4 hours and slept soundly all the way. He's very settled, loves his new toys, ate his tea SLOWLY (never had a lab who ate slowly!), he's very calm and gentle and so soft to stroke. He's had loads of cuddles, been for some nice walks, met a couple of local dogs (he seemed very interested in Jess a very flirty Border Collie), and is now fast asleep near me in the office.

We have one clever dog here - he knows how to open doors by the door handle, that made us laugh as we were just setting the burglar alarm after shutting him in the utility room, turned round and there he was wagging his tail! After a short howling session and a firm "Enough in your bed" from me he settled down and we didn't hear a peep from him until 6.30am - no damage, no mishaps. This 10 month old is GORGEOUS he doesn't pull, sits at the roadside, has been very well trained. If only my OH was as well trained!!!

I know it's early days but after a long 17 months it's fantastic having my own dog again. Hope the photos come out okay.

Thanks so much Glenys for letting us adopt him.

Joan x

:1951: I'm so pleased for you Joan. What a relief it must be to have George in the house after so long. My record was 15 months without a lab! :1951:
George suits him and he looks as though he is going to settle quickly into your routine.
He is one very handsome boy.

Great News Joan. George looks beautiful. May you and Hubby have very many happy years together with the beautiful lad.

A home is not the same without a Lab.

Thanks everyone for your lovely replies, we are so pleased with George. It's great having a dog again and definitely worth the wait. I agree the lawn has recovered well in 17 months without a dog but I suppose it's all down here with it from now on. :1966:

He hasn't met the Great Danes yet as my friend's Mum has suddenly become critically ill and she is at the hospital all the time, I'm going down to let them out and feed them. I wouldn't want to introduce them without her being there, they weigh 24 1/2 stone together and I don't know how George would react to them. So that can wait - I don't know - from zero dogs to 3 in a few days :1962:

Gary - he does have a lovely shiney coat and, yes, I'm up at 6am each morning polishing my dog - I thought everyone did that !

So this northern lad is settling in well down here as a southerner, but he definintely has the northern trait for plain speaking. This morning I came down stairs in a hurry straight out of the shower, hair just towelled and a white dressing gown, I came round the corner and he jumped up looked terrified, put his hackles up and starting barking like a banshee. My hubby burst out laughing and said he couldn't agree more he's had to put up with that view every morning for over 30 years. :1967:

Thank you Joan for giving gorgeous George a lovely new home. How on earth did you manage 17 months with no dog? Looking forward to more updates and pics. :1951:
