Labrador Rescue

My very first dog Prince had to have his whole tail removed way back in late 1970's as a result of an accident. He had the biggest, fluffiest tail I'd ever seen and he was absolutely fine after it. He ended up with a little stump in the end and was able to wag that with the same vigour as when he had his full tail.

Try not to worry Bev (easier said that done I know) but Alfie will be fine.

Just been back to the vets with Alfie, and unfortuntely after 4 weeks of visits and antibiotics the vet thinks that the best course of action is to have part of his tail removed.

So sorry Alfie has to lose part of his tail, but look at Treo who won the award, he has only got a little tail.

I am sorry to hear about Alfie - as everyone else has said, he will be fine. I don't think its like us mere humans losing a limb.

THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE FOR YOUR KIND THOUGHTS FOR TODAY.

Alfie is home now and he is doing fine. The vet has taken about 3 inches off his tail so he still has a good amount to wag. In typical labrador fashion he was starving when he got home, so we have just given him a small amount of food to keep him going.

He is now the proud owner of the biggest rawhide chew in the world. Hopefully this will keep him going for the next few days and stop him trying to chew his bandage. Got to put a huge lampshade on him tonight.

Brave boy Alfie, you deserve that chew.

So glad he is well after his op.

Great to know Alfie is home same and sound, albeit minus a bit of tail. He looks as if he hasn't got a care in the world. Just as well they don't worry like we do! Sending best wishes for a speedy revovery so he doesn't have to put up with the lampshade for too long.

Gosh that is a big chew! Alfie's looking good and it's great that he still has plenty of tail left to wag. Hope he's isn't too bothered by the lampshade. What a brave and handsome boy he is!

Are you sure that's a rawhide chew, because it looks like a dinosaur bone to me.... it's massive!!!

Well done Alfie, you deserve all the love that you're bound to be given over the next few days for going through a double operation! My hubby winced when he heard what you'd been through!!!
