What you can't see is the carrier bags full of dog treats all over my office - I work for a company that imports and sells dog and cat treats!!! I swear, it's true!!!

Ann, thanks for the office compliment! It's not as tidy as my hubby would like it to be - he can be a bit of clean freak (I think Charlie might knock the edge of that!!! ). The majority of the stuff that you see in the office photos is actually my craft cart and my paper, etc - I make hand-made cards for birthdays, weddings, etc., etc.

Well done on the non-nipping day so far with Millie - Charlie has had a couple of goes, but not met with my flesh yet! Just gave him a couple of "tssst" noises (a la Cesar Milan style) and nudges to get him far enough away from me to effectively ignore him! He's still trying me, but I will NOT be defeated by him!!!

Keep up the good work! Playpen has a few good ideas about how to stop dogs nipping, etc. if you want further advice!

Sorry Louise I'm a bit late picking up on this post. Congratulations to you and Scott on adopting Charlie The photos are lovely - he is a handsome big lad.

He does look like he is settling in pretty well - the mouthing is an issue, but sounds like you are on the right track to getting that stopped. Neutering is definitely a good idea - we got Buster done at 2, as he was really starting to challenge his position in the pack and it made a huge difference.

Charlie looks to be one big cuddley teddy bear. I am sure you will soon stop the nipping, new life, new boundries. It just takes a little time for them to adjust. Love the pictures of him.

Mattie used to mouth at times we didnt get her till she was about 12 months old she would come for a cuddle and then nip the soft bit under my arm OUCH and mouth my hands it was all attention seeking behaviour.
Ignoring them to stop over excitement and then acknowledging when the behaviour is ok usually worked though when puppies mouth I try to get fingers through the side of the mouth and touch the roof of their mouth with firm command NO! or OFF! it works .
Its early days with Charlie he is generally a happy dog and he will follow your lead another tip is to make sure all the family use the same commands choose the words for different commands and stick to them therefore not confusing him.
Johns book is good its in our online shop good tips in there for training.

Thanks Glenys - what you described with Mattie is exactly what Charlie is doing! We have now realised and accepted that he is an attention seeker and that such behaviour is to be ignored.

Now we just have to find a way of stopping him lying on the sofa when we're upstairs sleeping... He's always back off again in the morning when he hears us coming down the stairs - crafty thing!!! Although he hasn't learned how to replace the cushion which falls on the floor and always gives the game away!!

I have found on here that most labs have the saying share and share alike.

None of my other dogs were allowed on the furniture, but Balee just does not listen. He has been known to just stand and stare at my OH when it is bed time and he wants the settee.

Hi Louise, sounds like he's well & truly getting his feet under the table, as for trying to keep him off the sofa at night try covering the seats with cooking foil or bubble wrap just before you go to bed, they dont like the sound it makes, if he also has a comfy bed in the vicinity he will soon get the message which one to use. Hth
