SAM'S FIRST 3 DAYS

After a uneventful meeting with his new elderly sister Sam leapt into the back of the car and settled down for his trip home. On arriving home and going into the house Jessie (his new sister, nearly 12 and going grey) decided to give him a roasting and barked and barked .......................all of which being a gentleman he took !!
Anyway, he had a mooch around, was shown his big comfy bed, the big toy box, the garden and all the other bits and pieces he needed. His new sister chose to ignore him. Our 2 children here gave him lots of love and cuddles and the younger one cried because she was so happy to have another dog. Sam's new Grandma & Grandad came over to meet him as they come over on the days that one of us is not at home and look after the dogs and take them for a walk
Here he is a couple of hours after arriving with his new Dad settling in on the first night and his new sleeping arrangements .............I think he thought it was better to keep his distance for a while.

Today is Friday and Jessie has only told him off once more. She wouldn't walk with him on Wednesday or Thursday but today she did !!!! We went on a really long walk today and Sam got to go swimming in the stream. He has settled in really well. We are thrilled with how well trained Sam is and can't believe how quickly he has settled in. He walks right beside you, strays very little, comes when shouted, sits, lies down, gets his own lead................and wees all over my planters (something very new to me having only had bitches before !!!). He plays with toys but doesn't know how to fetch a ball which is fine but seems really odd when he is well trained with everything else.

He is off to the vets next week to be checked over, have his jabs and his microchip re-assigned. Below is and achievement................taken this afternoon..............we think Jessie has decided he can stay too !!!

We post another update in a few weeks

What a great update......love your description of Jessie's reaction to Sam, I could just picture it. I am always amazed at how well dogs settle into their new surroundings they are so adaptable really. Good to see that Jessie is coming around to him, can't wait to see next weeks update.

The story of Sam is that on Monday this week I had a call from a vet who told me sam had been taken in to his surgery by his "Special needs Owner" and asked how much it would cost to put him to sleep !!as he could not cope anymore with Sam.
The Vet phoned me and as Sam was in need I aranged to get him picked up but very quickly phoned Carol as My Sam was busy and I eeded help asI wasnt sure how the dog would be to handle and off we set on a trip of about 60 miles we did get slightly lost but the Vet was still waiting for us.
We put Sam in the car and fetched him back
We gave him a lovely brushing and some biscuits and took his photo aand listed him.
We had to say that we had no history but shock horror i realalise that at one point we knew this dog.
So then I was able to say he had been a family dog at one time.
I think his owner was having a breakdown of some kind but didnt want him anymore.

I am delighted that Caron came forward and she was given the chance to have him on trial so all week I have been awaiting the good news that he now has his permanent loving home and older sister.

What a great ending! It was probably a natural reaction on the part of Jessie - but if they're like this together after only 3 days, well there's a great future ahead! :1954: :1954: :1954:
