GANDY- UPDATE

Got this today from Gandys new Dad...so pleased this lovely boy has now got a lovely new home...

Kathryn,

Just a quick update after the debacle of our trip to the Labrador Rescue on Friday.:-

Gandy (and who could change a name like that?) has settled and is bonding into the family amazingly well. He is a brilliant house dog, very quiet and absolutely loves his new bed. We've not heard a peep from during each of his three nights here. He has a really lovely nature and easy going, loving temperament and is also really very gentle. I have yet to see any aggression in him. He just seems a typical big daft, outgoing Labrador.

I have done lots of work with him since we got him, mainly in the freezing rain!

He was not good at all on the lead initially and I am not sure he had much lead walking in his 'previous life'. However, with relatively little effort, a bit of patience and the help of a Halti harness (the chest one), which I have found excellent; I have already got him walking really well to heel on the lead in the street.

Off the lead in the fields near our home he has been very good so far, with good recall. He looks for you all the time and answers well to his name.(with the natural training treat). He probably needs a lot more work with regards to distractions as he obviously hadn't seen rabbits or many birds before and is very friendly to anyone. In fact everyone who meets him is enchanted by him. Give him a puddle or any water and he's straight in it! Typical Lab.

Losing our last two Labs after fourteen years together was a painful and traumatic experience but already in the early days of owning Gandy the joys and satisfaction of life with an active young (well in our eyes) Labrador are once more flooding back. The chance to have such a dog who desperately needed a home may also prove a very rewarding experience.

I hope the above is of interest and please pass on to all at the rescue and that kind couple who took him out the other weekend.

Many regards and thanks,

This is a wonderful update on this delightful boy we could not understand why he waited so long for a home but in a way I am glad he did and he found his lovely new owner.

It always amazes me how some dogs just seem to stick in Rescue, when I saw Glenys' post when he came in and looked at Gandy's picture I thought he would be snapped up - he was such a good looking dog.

I'm just so glad he has found such a loving home where he can ease the loss for his new owners and they are giving him the chance to be a loved lab once again.
