Who's a clever boy then?
At ten and a half, Skye's arthritis has started to effect his back legs as well as his front now. Jumping in to the back seat was becoming a problem for him. An increase in meds has helped a lot and I reconfigured the car so he could get in through the tailgate using a caravan step but jumping out was definitely jarring his front elbows.
I did a lot of research into doggy ramps and decided to steer clear of the plastic folding type (a few reports of them collapsing during use) and finally settled on an aluminium telescopic one. A lot more expensive but better safe than sorry!
It arrived this morning so we had a training session. First flat on the floor then slowly increasing the incline using the back door steps then finally into the car. The incline is perfect for him - 6 feet long fully extended and he trots up and down it with no hesitation at all.
I'm so proud of him.

We also have an Aluminium telescopic ramp we bought a couple of years ago, we worried the girls wouldn’t use it but they got the hang of it straight away Coco has elbow problems and will only get in and out with the ramp, Kinder uses the ramp but is not that patient when it comes to getting out so we have to feel for her collar before we let the boot up
So well done Skye for getting to grips with your new ramp and enjoy your days out.

Hello Paul and Skye
Well done Skye for mastering the ramp, and well done Paul for all your hard work and success so soon, I have a ramp but have yet to get our dogs to use it!!
Very pleased that you enjoyed Northumberland, we have a very beautiful county and coast line, we live inland but can get to the coast in 30 minuets.
We are pleased that you are both well.

Re: Who's a clever boy then?
Hello Paul and Skye so pleased to hear that Skye has mastered the ramp it will make a huge difference to his joints. When George was diagnosed with arthritis in his elbow the orthopaedic vet suggested a ramp and it worked really well. He did say that jumping in and out of cars was bad for the dog's joints as the jarring could mean bone rubbing on bone. We did exactly what you did first on the floor then at different angles plus a treat - worked for us:)
Wishing you and Skye lots of happy trips out together.

Well Done Skye. I could do with you training Megan she just will not use a ramp.
