Hi Glenys,
My name is Janet Sedgwick and my husband and I received a dog from you in March 07. He was called Larry and since then we have found out he responded to the name Sam, so we have kept that name.
I am writing to inform you that he is a wonderful dog who has fitted into any situation I have requested him to, and he is welcomed everywhere and by everyone. Sadly we found a lump on his hind leg which was removed by the Vet. It was sent for a biopsy and it is grade 3 mast cell cancer, the worst sort he could have. After the shock, we are thinking positively as at the moment he is doing fine. The Vet has given us 2 months to 2 years with him, but they can be wrong can't they? Last year Sam had a problem with a limp in his front leg, 'severe arthritis' the Vet said and doped him up to the eyeballs, however I wasn't convinced and I wanted to know more. I met an excellent animal communicator called Jackie Weaver on my travels in alternative therapy, and I arranged to have a session with Sam and her. A lot of things came from the session and 'severe arthritis' wasn't one of them. Sam said his leg wasn't too bad but Cortaflex would sort it out, he complained of a bad back and neck and if I contacted a Mc Timony dog chiropractor it would be sorted out. The cortaflex sorted the leg out and I found an excellent dog chiropractor near Ruthin in Wales and off we went. She assessed him and found his neck and back muscles over his hind legs were 'locked'. she gently manipulated them and eased them and did an awful lot of work in the 1st session. We took Sam back for the next 3 weeks and his limp disappeared and he was a different chappie altogether. He now just goes for maintenance sessions every few weeks and lies there as relaxed as ever and lets Ellie do whatever she has to. He can still receive a gentle massage and any corrections needed whilst he is at the stage he is at with his cancer. In between visits I carry on with his treatments and have learned such a lot about accupressure, massage and the complete working muscles of a dog. I am hoping that however long we have Sam I can make his life easier and when the end comes I can hold my head up and say I did my best for him, as indeed he has done for me. I have also changed Sam's diet gradually and I now include fresh veg and I tap his thymus gland to keep his immune system on top notch as best I can. I can only try to keep him as long as I can but as we all know animals are only lent to us from God. Chemotherapy is an option we can choose but Sam doesn't like being away from us and as he has been with me every day since we got him, I couldn't bear to think of him suffering while they try to work out his chemo dose and I don't think he would like it either. Sam has respected me and all he has come into contact with and in return I want him to have dignity and respect back.
I am upset and sorry to have to write this e mail to you but I wanted to let you know and keep you up to date with one of your 'rescues'
Hopefully I won't have to e mail you again with sad news for a long time yet and I shall carry on doing my best for my best friend and wonderful companion.

How lucky Sam was to have found you Janet. He is one very, very lucky boy. You seem to be looking after him so well.

What a wonderful home and a fantastic caring owner Sam has.

Our Mollie had a mass cell tumour removed from her back leg when she was 4 years old. She never had chemo, and the tumour never returned. She went to Rainbow Bridge when she was 11. Mollie had liver problems for the last few months of her life, but as far as I know, this was never related to the tumour that was found on her leg 7 years earlier.

Let's hope Sam has a good while yet.

There are some very special people whom we are blessed to meet and who take dogs from us and are there for them no matter what.
Sam found this in his home and we hope he has lots more snuggle times with you I know what its like to have a dog with cancer and we have to remember and take comfort that dogs have no concept of time a short happy life or a long one they live in the moment so Sam will be surrounded by love all the way .....I have no doubt and now you have shared it with us we will travel through this with you this with you and hope you draw strengh from us
