lucy and dougal

Post by rachel alice »

Sadly a few months ago I lost my beautiful black labrador suzy, at three years old with total kidney failure, I own an 11 year old English Bull Terrier sam (also a rescue), who is riddled with cancer and was operated on last October to remove a massive tumour he was only given weeks to live, but hey he is till here, just after Suzy was put down my friend put me in touch with labrador rescue and less than a week later we had rescued the gorgeous blonde Lucy from Wales, after the initial reaction from sam that he wanted to kill her, they are now best of friends and sole mates. And sam is young again and galloping round the garden with her, its as if she came here as a pup. my friend rescued a labrador over 6 years ago called Bobby the Bolton Wanderer, he is now 12 years old and coming to his twilight years and sadly she lost her four year old west highland white just over a week ago, but has now rescued the irish puppy and we are running all these rescues together (except for Sam) We went walking with Lucy and Dougal over the weekend and to see the two you labs running together in the fields was just amazing. We just couldnt believe that we both still had th old dogs and were replacing our young dogs with rescues. Lucy is truly amazing, she helps me clean the cupboards out - do I really need an electric blender, kitchen scales etc or a plug on the kitchen heater it is summer after all. She just loves running in the long grass- she is growing up and longer bolting when she sees a cow or a horse, pig sheep or in fact another dog. Wow arent sam and I lucky to have such a wonderful new friend cheers rach :2379: :2379:

Oh what a sad and happy story all rolled in to one! How sad to have lost a lab so young - that must have been heartbreaking. There have been a few stories on here recently about labs going before their time. Marvellous that Sam has got a new lease of life as well :thumbright:

Dougal looked gorgeous on the website!! Your friend is very lucky.

It's wonderful to read about the Irish doggies. I hope you have many many years of happiness.

It is so lovely to hear updates of the dogs that spend time here, some are here a while some less so but they all take a place in our hearts.

I remember you coming for Lucy, it as your son's birthday and it just seemed as it was meant to be.
Dougal ( who was Blackmore!!) certainly is a special pup, I have never met a pup as calm and so well behaved, almost as if he has an old head on young shoulders, so intelligent.
I look forward to further updates and give them both a big hug from me and the gang, not forgetting Geoff who was head over heels in love with Dougal :love2:
I am joy in a woolly coat, come to dance in your life, to make you laugh.

Hi Ky, We are training the young dogs together, lucy has amazing recall and we thought she might influence dougal which she has, :1966: He has grown quite considerably and now steals loaves out of the bread bin, and eats electric wires. Cow muck and other delightful things in the fields are now also on his menu well done lucy  She is truly amazing and such a wonderful dog, she is the only lab that I know of that camel walks Ive only seen bulls do it before, she just makes people smile and laugh. taking the two pups out again on friday for some more training :1968: did I say training :1968: :1968: :1968: :1968:

A a year on and how amazing the two rescues can be :2389: , they still walk together every week, Dougal has tipped her into the canal on one of these walks and several other dogs , :2379: , dougal is now going to dog training classes  . and lucy has matured into a beautiful 16month old lab,, who would llike to be wider :2803: she came on my sons birthday and wants all of the cake. She still eats unimportant things like post!!!!! :bravo: loves rolling in fox sh***t :bath: and then doesnt want a bath. She is now learning to guide sam the old bull terrier, who is nearly blind, helps him down the stairs, ( Why are the both sleeping up there :1968: ) and then boxes him, I woudnt do that to a 12 year old bull but she does, no fear anymore, she is no longer bolting only in play. she has recently met another rescue a stafford cross basset cross corgi, they just play and play and play. She now tops it all and we often walk eight to twelve miles at the weekend, come home absolutely tired and she wants to walk some more. What a wonderful life XXX
