Olly and his poorly foot

Hi, Olly is now sporting a rather battered buster collar having cut his brake pad and it not healing because he tends to jump up at the fence. He also has a habit of opening the back door with his feet which I don't think is helping. I now have a chair in front of the back door to try and keep him with all four feet on the ground.

Any thoughts anyone on how I might train him to close the door, he's great at opening it but as it's moving towards winter it would be good if he could reverse the process as it does make for a slightly chilly house!

He has been extremely good with the restriction of the collar although his attempts at affection at the moment should come with a government health warning, buster collars have quite a hard edge when shoved at all and any part of the body.

I will try to attach some photos in the future but perhaps when his head is not framed by a large plastic lampshade.

Hope Olly soon recovers and can return to his normal collar, for his sake AND yours

Can't say I've ever seen a dog close the door after them so no tips from me I'm afraid. I spent much fruitless time trying to teach Willow to wipe her paws after our walks but she would just watch me demonstrating the technique on the coconut matting with an amused expression!

Hi,

Thank you all for your kind messages, Olly is now without bandages but still with the collar but it's coming off on Monday!!!!! What's left of it, I think I should take shares out in the company that makes gaffer tape.

He's been using it as a scoop, runs at things and stops after the collar has made contact - my legs, the door, the table really anything and everything that gets in his way.

After the sock swollowing incident, we then had the "no chew" bandage which he ate. This resulted in another call to the vet, a lot of laxapet and the bandage was returned on the sitting room carpet during the night. For all of you whose imagination has taken on the worst case, it's ok he was sick!

I'm beginning to think that if Olly was a small child I might be referred to social services bacause no-one would believe the mischief he gets up to!

Oh I forgot he also jumped off a walled path and when we looked where he'd gone the drop was too steep for him to get back up my brother went to the rescue and fell (about 10ft) he's now sporting a very badly brused him and leg, Olly is fine!

At least once in your life I think all animal people have that very special one, Olly is mine.

Great news that he is nearly back to normal, but I do wonder what normal is like with him

He sounds an absolute character.

I should light the fuse paper and stand well clear when his collar is removed.

Feeling a bit gob-smacked after reading all about Olly's mischief. Have to admit my imagination took on the worst case.

He does sound a real character.

Ref your door closeing problem.

I have an assistance dog that alerts me by nudging me on my leg with his muzzle.

He was trained to do this useing a method called targeting.It can be adapted to cover a number of tasks which aid a physically disabled person.

Hi to all,
the collar came off and Olly took off, but he's slowly settling back to what is normal for him. My sister feels I'm the bad influence, I think it's more the combination of Olly and me and our slightly unconventional take on life.

My brother's leg was seriously black, blue, yellow and green, an absolute work of art which spread from his knee to his toes, but he's fine and is still talking to me.

Thank you all for your messages I hope perhaps for a while we settle into a more peaceful existence.
