Reluctant Owner leaves her dog with you
This is from the point of view from a very reluctant former owner who needed emergency rescue for Tessa, a 2 year old yellow bitch. Due to divorce I had to make an awful decision which of my 2 girls to keep. Tessa was the younger and my other dog was rehomed when I got her 5 years ago so it didn't seem right to give her up. Tessa is a wonderful, loving, loyal girl who hasn't got a nasty bone in her body. I hope sincerely that she finds a forever family soon and that she settles well with them. I have cried and cried over leaving her but I had to put the dog first. I would welcome knowing that Tessa is Ok and happy.
Many thanks Deb

I'm so sorry that you had to give up your beloved Tessa and I'm pleased that Glenys is able to let you know that she has a new forever home. I can imagine how awful it must have been for you to make this decision and my heart goes out to you.

Thank you so much Joan for your kind message. Knowing what to do with Tessa was difficult as I did not want to advertise her incase the new owners were not kind to her. I had looked at the Dogs Trust as a friend walks for them, but she suggested the breed rescue centres and I found you on the net. Knowing that she would be given to a vetted family is great and I'm just so grateful that it was all so quick as the thought of such a 'people' dog being by herself worried me. My other bitch has taken great delight in being the centre of attention. Having rehomed 2 labradors in my time, although it was difficult, I know I have done the right thing. Had I of known of marital issues I never would have got her. I am a responsible owner and hope that her new forever family understand this.
Again thank you xx

Re: Reluctant Owner leaves her dog with you
My heart goes out to you, it must have been so heartbreaking after the breakup of your marriage.
I understand how difficult it can be to cope on your own, and from the times my husband has been away for a couple of weeks at a time I know I would really struggle to keep both girls happy and would probably have to do the same for my young girl to give her the active life she needs. A fall yesterday brought things home to me quite painfully (I have arthritis) as today my knees are agony and Dave is away for another ten days. Such a silly thing as getting a welly stuck in a muck heap and falling flat on my face in well rotted manure, the dogs thinking it was a good game....... Walks will be shorter for a couple of days, meaning Bella will be less relaxed!
You definitely came to the right place, the volunteers at this rescue do an amazing job rehoming dogs to suitable families who will adore them.
Wishing you the best for the future.

Hello Deb, i'm sorry to hear about you having to give up Tessa, it's a heartbreaking decision but a very brave one, if only others would come to rescue as you did instead of just passing dogs on or selling them to unsuitable homes, i'm sure it helps to know that Tessa is settling into her new home and that she will be loved.

Re: Reluctant Owner leaves her dog with you
It's been a week since I gave Tessa up. Milly and I have moved to my Mum's and she is settled well, especially with Dad giving her treats and walks.
I bought a Thomas Sabo charm for my bracelet today, a silver labrador, to keep. Nothing will ever make up for the heartache of having to give her up, but I have something tangible to hold.
Please, if it's not too much trouble could you, or her new owners let me know how she is doing and if there is anything that needs asking to help Tessa and her new family bond.
With so much gratitude, Deb x

My goodness, what a very sad tale. But you have my full admiration in realising there was a problem and dealing with it in such a responsible way. All the best.
