Re: Bryn, an update

Post by Maggies Dad »

Sorry, I had to delete what I previously posted as the vet changed the "goal posts" within minutes of me posting. Here is an update after today..........
Another false start........Bryn went in AGAIN today for his hip surgery,(that's Monday and Wednesday)
and came home without having it done. (We don't know how much more of the sleepless nights and stress
we can take).
After putting Bryn under anaesthetic again the vet took a "tap" of fluid from inside his hip joint,
he found it to be murky blood red instead of the clear tinged yellow it should be. This apparently
indicates a possibility of an infection in the joint, and the ease that he had in finding this fluid
indicated there is possibly a lot of it.
The sample has to be sent away for lab testing so there is a period now of yet more uncertainty, but
he has been immediately started on a course of anti-biotics to fight any possible infection in there.
Although Bryn's hips are in a very bad state and pop in and out of joint much too frequently, this
fluid and the terrible pain an infection in there would be causing, if fought may ease a lot of his
discomfort. The orthopaedic surgeon says that if this is the case, Bryn could, possibly go back to
how he was before, which although is far from "sound" on his legs, could let him continue life
happily.
The reasons for this "bad" fluid sample can be several things including just inflammation, an
infection (we are hoping) or the nasty "C" word. The lab results take up to 10 days but should tell
us which we are looking at. In the mean time, if it is an infection in the joint, the anti-biotics he
is now taking along with all his pain medication should show an improvement in him in a few days.

Thank you all for caring so much.

Really hoping the antibiotics and pain relief kick in to make Bryn more comfortable, not wishing the poor boy any ill, but hoping results show infection and nothing nasty.
Sending healing thoughts for you all. :bighug:

What an horrendous time you are having.

Keeping all crossed that Bryn has an infection that can be sorted out with ab's and things start looking up. Positive and healing thoughts for the lovely Bryn.

Buckets of positive and healing thoughts coming from here to the gorgeous Bryn. I really hope this proves to be an easily treated infection and that dear Bryn will be pain free as soon as possible.

You must be out of your minds with worry and everything here is crossed that the meds work quickly and Bryn soon starts to feel much better.
Big hugs to Bryn :love5: from me

I am desperately sorry that poor Brun still seems to be having a hard time. I had been thinking of him having his operation. I hope this fluid is just an infection, it seems an awful long time to wait for the results. I hope the medicines he has had/is having has given him relief from the pain he is in. He must be such a brave boy. You must be really stressed out. Will be thinking of him and you and keeping fingers and paws crossed.

So sorry to hear that things are rumbling on, you must be stressed after the couple of false starts. ........but, I guess that if Bryn can be made comfortable without surgery that will be a blessing.
Fingers & paws crossed here, sending loads of positive healing thoughts Bryn's way,
