Just been catching up with updates on Kizzie. Loved the Videos. She is beautiful and so full of life. In time she will settle down, but she is only a baby yet. Enjoy, as tiring as it is they are only babies once.

Re: Storm (now Kizzy)
Well, I went back to my own bed Friday night, after 2 weeks on the settee, making sure Kizzy didn't mess up her stitches during the night (neither of us liked the e-collar
)and she couldn't come into the bedroom cos she can't climb stairs.
(I'm telling you lot this, because I know you'll understand and not think I was stupid.
)
Anyway, I was dreading this, expecting her to cry, howl or bark. Sat morning at 4.30, she did- but that was 6 hours by herself, which was good going. Sunday, 6am, just a little howl-so that was 8hours of sleep we both got. Last night NOTHING! -she woke me at 8am with a little cry -10 hours of sleep!!!! (Have a feeling though that she slept on the settee although she swears she didn't as she's not allowed on there......
)
Now she's healed, she spends a lot of time off the lead. Her recall is great-if she looks as though she's going to leg it over to someone or a dog, I call her over and over and jump up and down and every time so far I've got her attention and she's come to me.(I read this on here somewhere). I feel so proud of her. She loves fetching the ball, but then chews them. We used up 2 brand new ones yesterday and another one today. Will have to look out some reinforced ones!!
She loves ice-covered puddles and scratches at them till they break, and then pushes her head right under to pick up a piece of ice and then eats it. I've never seen a dog do this before. She also loves being towelled dry and will lift her feet for me. Also loves being brushed- I can get to those places she just can't reach!!
Now the only serious outstanding problem is this barking when I go to the shop- never more than 5 minutes. This morning, I gave her 4 biscuit treats just as I went out and I was almost at the bottom of the street before I heard her. There wasn't any barking as I got back, the biscuits were just about gone, but she was doing a bit of coughing, gulping as though she was determined to get the biscuits eaten but also to do some token barking to show that she wasn't going to be side-tracked this way.
. Well, we'll just have to keep trying!
This seems a bit long-winded but I just feel so proud of her. She's come such a long way in 4 weeks and been through a lot of change (so have I,
). Also, if Gracie, Rose and Fudge are anything like her, their new owners are in for a treat. I look at those dogs that I 'missed out' on, and know that the right one came along for me.

Great to read about Kizzy Sue she sounds a wonderful pet and companion for you I am so jealous! Glad she comes back to you too. You must feel tons better after getting a good nights sleep. I'm sure in time she'll get used to you nipping to the shops and stop the barking. You're doing so well - she's only been with you about a month hasn't she. You must be doing something right

Re: Storm (now Kizzy)
Kizzy seems to be coming on a storm!! sorry !!!
We have all the fun to come with Gracie although I know Carol has started the work.
I have been told than when we leave a dog if we are anxious in any way they can pick up on it and that is when they bark or whine--we all know they are not daft-- and so that is when the anxiety starts. I have been lucky as each of my dogs can be left on their own what Gracie will be like remains to be seen but I am a big believer in dog crates when training it gives the dog a safe space that is theirs and they can feel secure in.
Kizzy sounds to be doing incredibly well as she has had so much change in a very short time and no dog grasps everything at once.
Mij loves ice and icey puddles and has spent most of the cold weather de-icing the duck ponds he will retrieve toys from the bottom of the pond.
I am so jealous as time is going so slowly for me, Gracie is going to have to work very hard to catch up with her sister.
Another few weeks and we will be able to compare notes!!!

Kizzy is gorgeous and her coat is beautiful. She doesn't look like she needs to lose weight, she looks pretty perfect to me!

Re: Storm (now Kizzy)
I can't believe it- I've just spent nearly an hour putting together a post and I've lost it all!! Here we go again.... (If the onetruemedia doesn't work, I'll have to contact the expert, Martin. Photobucket wouldn't let me do it)
On Wednesday, Dave looked after Kizzy whilst I was out with his sister. They met a new friend-
.
She also played the part of a heroine-
http://www.onetruemedia.com/my_shared?z ... m=text_url
Today, we went on the same walk and she renewed her friendship with the horse-

Aaargh! He kissed me! Don't tell my friends, I'll lose my street cred!!

Back home Kizzy was sponged down and towelled dry (5th towel this week!), had her tea and is now stretched out on the settee that she's not allowed on
.

Now I'm going to have a shower, get my tea, get a beer and hope that she'll make room for me on the settee

Re: Storm (now Kizzy)
Oh and by the way, Dave made the video of Kizzy and Eric, not me. I taught the kids at school how to produce this kind of thing, but I've forgotten how to do it!!
Then again, now I've retired, I've got the time to re-learn, I suppose......

I am so pleased to see Kizzy is not allowed on the settee!!
It could be worse she could bring her new friend home to share.
You can just see her op scar it looks so well healed.
