Last night we put the dogs to bed around 11, Grayse went willingly into her cage and settled. (After we had removed Bob and Mij!!!) We had been in bed around ten minutes when this pathetic little whimpering started. We listened and listened and it just remained this almost pup like mewing. This continued for around 10 minutes. Geoff wanted to get up and re-assure her but I felt she would learn she got attention if she cried and she had on the other nights been quiet.. Then suddenly there was this tremendous howl and then silence.

I think she was trying it on and then swearing at us for not listening to her demands!!!!! There was not a peep out of her and this morning she was still asleep when I got up.

This morning she followed Geoff upstairs, she loves men and Carol has said that Rose is the same, we do not allow dogs upstairs so she was told to "go down". Our stairs are not carpeted and so to claws have no grip and I do not think she has encountered stairs before.Going up is the easy part, coming down is scarey so there we were on our hands and knees coaxing her step by step--I do not need a wash this morning as a labrador tongue facial at 6.30am is most invigorating!! We got her down...eventually .

So here we are at the start of another exciting day, birds to let out, frisbees to throw and places to explore, naps to be had----who says it is a dog's life

Great update on Grayse she sounds as if she's very happy! Also had a Lab facial today daughter's dog Jess is here for the day and this is how she greeted me! Little monkey is yapping away like a baby in the kitchen as we speak!

Great update on Grayse. Looking forward to following her antics (Training) with all your animals. She sounds as if she is having fun with the ducks.

Whilst you have been introducing her to the ducks etc. have the other dogs been with you. Just curious.

Does she appear to be missing her pups, or are keeping her busy?

Sounds familiar .........except I ended up carrying her down. She hasn't attempted it since. From me going back to my own bed after her stitches were out we have had peaceful nights and she is waiting at the bottom of the stairs when I come down and greets me as if I'd been away for months!!

Lovely updates, I'm so glad that Grayse has settled in her new home! She's a gorgeous girl, you're very lucky!

I wondered if Kizzy had been the same. The silly thing has just followed me upstairs and I have been through the whole thing again--this time avoiding the wash.

We are now drawing up a list of things she barks at and are starting to think it would be shorter to make one of things she does not bark at.

She is getting bolder every day and has developed a real naughty twinkle in her eye.
This morning she discovered the delight of rolling in badger scat--pungent to say the least.

The four dogs are always with me it is just at bird locking up time the other 3 have rabbits to find and if they are really lucky a rat, whereas Grayse is still a little unsure and sticks close that is until something gets her attention.

What I have noticed is that when I lock up the birds a lot of my poultry houses have large sliding doors on, Grayse goes inside and sits down I think they must remind her of her kennel which I find sad.

One thing that really seems to annoy her is her dog disc, she seems to notice it touching her and then we have 2 or 3 minutes of her trying to bite it or catch it with her front leg. No doubt she will get used to it.

I have more pictures but my camera is being temperamental and so I will try again later.

Kizzy was the same with her collar and name tag. She found that annoying the first week she was here- so you can imagine the next week after she had been spayed, coming home in the e-collar. That upset her so much she didn't wear it after the first day, hence my sleeping on the settee. You have that to come .

All I can say is watch out for slippers, gloves, socks, rubbish out of waste bins and anything plastic. Kizzy gets these and runs off with them when she wants my attention.-then smirks
Maybe you won't have too many problems because she has her canine companions to learn from (or lead astray !!)and plenty of space outside.

Does she investigate everything you do? Unpacking shopping, poking her nose into every cupboard you open,walking between your legs to see what you're doing?

We could go on forever comparing notes! Must be careful or we'll bore others to death!! He he!

Lovely pics and looking forward to seeing Grayse's progress. I asked Jack what he thought about cages and the reply was "Will it have a sofa inside ?"
