Today was quite an exciting day as Grayse went out with me for a little walk around the corner to Lynne's to meet a nice young man who is also a lab person. Old age has hit here as I cannot recall his name--sorry.
Poor Grayse it is her first outing and she is so unsure of herself once she gets out of our gate. Her tail is down and you can tell she is not at all the confident girl she is at home.
On the way back from Lynne's we met a pony and trap being driven by a friend of mine she barked like mad. Luckily the pony was out to get used to things so the trap stopped and Grayse could see it was not scarey and the pony could see Grayse was just a silly dog.


It proved to me that she is well and truly settled here because she was as good as gold on the lead until we got about 20 yds from home , she must have recognised where we were as her tail went up and she tried to pull me home. Once through the gates she was back to normal.So now I feel she is truly settled I will start to take her out and about and do all the things you normally do with a puppy to socialise them so I suppose her life gets fuller and her horizons start to broaden.
Today she sat on the second "sit" without having to touch her so she is learning.

She is a lovely dog but was quite anxious to get home again - I watched her as Ky walked her back. She really was in quite a hurry. Bless her she is such a sweetie!

OK, OK so I have senior moments--I am allowed not only am I getting on a bit I am blonde!!well blonde and grey.

I have been thinking about Grayse whilst we have been locking up the birds and I realised that today when I took her around to Lynne's that it was one of the few times if not the first time in her life when she did not have canine company.

I know Carol walked her with Rose a couple of times and whilst at Carol's she had the pups and Carol's dogs so really she has seldom been on her own and it must be quite unnerving for her.
You could also tell when she met Lynne and Gary (there got the name ) that she is not used to meeting people as she goes very subdued and cowed, very much like the first time I met her.
These are all things to work on, next time out I will take Mij with her as he is so laid back and does not get rattled at anything he should set her a good role model.

We have loads of time and she has only been here 12 days, she has settled so well I have to keep reminding myself of that.

I'm really looking forward to fun day haven't been before, and meeting all you people i've been chatting to for months, and their dogs too of course. I think i'll recognise the dogs before the owners.

I'm sure too Grayse will be ok she's got lots of new stuff to experience.

Wow, I have really enjoyed reading all the posts but, particularly enjoyed the pictures and updates.

You seem to be running a veritable zoo Ky. I can't say I envy you at this time of year though, it's a lot to fit in during shorter days. Soon be lighter nights Can't wait for them myself. Never enough hours in a day as it is.

Oh dear, here I am sitting waiting to feed the lambs before I get 4 hours sleep and then feed them again!! reading your comments and I realise that I haven't even finished putting pictures of Grayse's new family of animals up.!!

You must think what a sad individual I am.!!

There are more sheep--Jacobs- and all the ducks and my prize exhibition poultry.

I realise what an eccentric or mad person I must be for having all these animals to look after and feed( and believe me you do not want my feed bills).

Grayse has taken so much in her stride as here must be an assault on the senses for dogs as there is so much going on sometimes it assaults my senses and I know what to expect.!!

Tonight when Geoff came in from work Grayse was extra pleased to see him, to me another sign she is settled, so now for the socialisation--watch this space.

Ky, A few years ago we adopted a lovely old boy of nearly 12 years.(Not from MKF, was before I knew Glenys) He settled in right away here, but before he arrived here he had been in kennels and then had also had a lovely foster home. For the first couple of months, whenever we took him to a new house, he would panic. We think that he was scared that he was going to lose another loving home and I wonder if Grayse is worried that she is going to another home?
She sounds like she has settled really well with you there, she reminds me of the black lab that we had who was also a Grace. Lovely name.

Could be. I think that's why Kizzy isn't mad keen on getting in the car and also why she's got this separation anxiety.

Wonder if that's because she's been confined with the pups for over a month. Kizzy was up to meeting everyone she came across right from the beginning, with great enthusiasm.

She also is getting a bit defiant towards the end of a walk and will go in another direction or just sit looking at me as I walk away towards the home route. She just wants to be out walking and exploring all day. She has an hour in the morning and 2 to 3 hours in the afternoon. Maybe she needs a playmate.......

I'm sure Grayse is coming on in leaps and bounds with all the playmates she's got.

Grayse also does not get in the car with enthusiasm but travels well, I am hoping a few pleasant outings will fix this also at the moment I am getting her used to travelling on her own as at some point eg a trip to the vets they all have it to do.The other 3 love the car but they are used to going to exciting places so I am hoping that their enthusiasm rubs off on Grayse.
Each of the other dogs happily settles on their own I do not think Grayse would, so this is something I would not do to her certainly not for a long time. I can leave the room etc and she does not always follow me but of course if I put boots or my hat on she picks up on the others energy and gets very excited.
I can understand Kizzy wanting to stay out they have so much time to make up and it must be like being in heaven for her now I think eventually a playmate is exactly what she needs!! all animals deserve company of their own kind.

Anyway we have snow again and the dogs are loving it. I managed to get a few snapshots of the 2 labs "helping" Geoff fill the call duck pool, by the time they had finished the water was dirtier than when he started!!! Geoff was freezing cold as the pipe was partially frozen and the water running slowly.

They are now asleep and snoring!!

Love the pictures of Grayse and Mij playing ,it is hard to believe that Grayse has only been with you a short time and achieved so much.Look forward to your updates and pictures.

Yesterday Grayse had a visitor, Mij's brother Buddy brought Lynne around to see her. As you can see our weather has been wintry to say the least over the last 72 hours.

First meeting where she was not at all bothered but Buddy spotted the camera!!

The princess dragged herself to bed with her blanket and SNORED!!!!!She did this herself!!



It does not matter how many beds and pieces of vet bed there are around this house everyone wants Bob's bed!!
Another full day draws to a close, I am glad you cannot hear the snoring.
