Please help us help Ted

Post by Glenys »

This is Ted he needs our help story below incase you do not want to follow the link Ted had a home waiting went out the same day sadly we just thought he was just in a poor condition his family just took him home to love , at rescue we do not like to think of a family being suddenly responsible within a few day of such a thing and insurance was not an option.
We are commited to help him so if you can join his journey we would be most grateful

Ted arrived to us in a poor state, he had issues with walking and poor skin condition. Our initial visit to the vets diagnosed his skin condition, an ear infection, fungal infection of his feet and more importantly his mobility issues are caused by dislocated knees that have never been dealt with, this has affected his hips and in addition he has a torn ACL in his left leg which is what brings about his lameness. After x-rays and a review by a special orthopaedic veterinary consultant we are advised that Ted needs an operation on his left leg which they call a TPLO; this is major surgery for Ted and his rehabilitation will be long and arduous but it provides Ted with at least one good rear leg. If Ted were not to have the surgery it is unlikely that we could keep Ted Pain free for the length of his anticipated life span (at least another 5-6 years) notwithstanding this should Ted's right ACL tear which is very possible given his arthritic state then he would not be able to walk, surgery wouldn't be an option at this point and we would have to make the very sad decision to end Teds life which would be wholly wrong for such a young and loving dog.

Ted having the surgery would provide one good rear leg and would mean that he has a better quality of life, we can manage pain relief much better and if the right ACL tears or there is any further degeneration in the right knee/hip we would be in a position to either say leave it and manage pain as he would essentially have one good back leg or operate further if that was appropriate and safe either option gives Ted a chance at normality and a decent quality of life.

Ted's vet is Julia Boness, she has been our chosen vet for all of our dogs (our late dogs Storm, Jude, Megan, & Coco) our current dogs Millie & Jack. I have complete trust in her judgement to offer this surgical option and Tracey and I are completely committed to getting Ted through the rehabilitation programme so he can enjoy life again.

The cost of the operation is
x£2,500 with rehabilitation costs of approx £1,000 for physio, hydro and other treatments

Ted is such a sweet and loving dog, he is very different from when we picked him up, he is a proud, friendly faithful young chap that is so eager to please and would benefit greatly from improved mobility; he can walk about 30 mins a day, he absolutely adores being outside!!

Todays news on TED

Good morning thankyou to all Teds friends here is the latest update we all wish this super boy love and healing on his journey....his surgery is 10th feb please wish him well ............

Morning Glenys,

I Hope you are well on this cold and frosty morning, please find attached two pictures of Ted, he is doing well, still going out on restricted 20/30 minute walks, he tries his best to keep up with Jack, (our own black Labrador)

We have arrange for Ted to have his surgery on the 10th February, so his walks will reduce and the long process will begin to rehabilitate Ted's back leg, to at the very least give the life that he so much deserves.

Tracey has forwarded the "just giving" link onto her work collages, we are hopeful that they may add a little to the fund.

His weight is coming down from 36 kilo's to 33.8 kilo's, his skin condition has improved with the change in food and several good baths, I will update you again with some more pictures of Ted over the coming days.

Talk to you again soon
