Purdey

Post by arlyj »

My dream has come true - we are now officially a 2 dog family. Got the news earlier this week that the little girl I have been waiting for may have arrived at the Rescue. Yesterday Buster, the OH and myself took ourselves off on the long drive down to MKF. I say long as it is amazing how long it seems on the way down compared to the way back.

All the way down I worried - what if she doesn't like Buster, we'll have gone all that way to come back just 3. Silly me :2019: Glenys told me to trust her and sure enough as soon as little Purdey saw Buster she ran up to him and started licking his face and I just knew it would be ok. Ok? Who am I kidding? She is perfect :love5: a little beauty, so kind, friendly and clever. To my shame she is better trained at 7 months than Buster is at 3 years. I only hope some of it rubs off on him and not the other way round :dontknow:

They travelled so quietly on the way home that we decided to get back without stopping. We got back around 5.30, let them out in the garden, where they ran round and round the fish pond, took them for a walk to the park, then back to the garden, where they ran round and round the fish pond, again :1966: They were then given their dinner, immediately after which they started to play..and play..and play. For 2 hours, non stop, I thought they'd keep it going all night, but suddenly Buster took himself off and I found him fast asleep on our bed, oops, and Purdey lay down in the hall and slept. Phew. :love2: It was such a big day for them that we didn't hear a sound from them until 6am, not bad for a new dog in a new home!

Unfortunately I had to go to work today, but David is remarkably "chilled" this evening, so I reckon even Mr Cynical has been won over. This evening we have driven over west, another 2 hour drive and Purdey is neither up nor down. David commented on the way over that you would think the 2 dogs had been together forever, Buster is still just as laid back as ever and Purdey is so well adjusted, they both seem to be taking it in their stride. Me, I'm just as happy as a pig in s***, or a dog in fox poo.

I do not know where to begin to thank Glenys for allowing us to adopt this gorgeous little girl and to ring the praises for everything that Glenys & Kathryn, Carol & all the other volunteers and definitely not forgetting Sam and Sam 2 do, unselfishly, to give labradors-and sometimes not quite labradors, I'm thinking Roddy here plus many others - another chance :love3:

So I'll leave you with a few photos, I knew that bed made for 2 would come in handy, they were all taken last night, but tomorrow we are off to the beach, so don't think you've heard the last from us :hello2: :hello2: Incidentally, as I am writing this, Buster is on the settee next to me and Purdey is stretched out in front of the coal fire...need I say any more? :love2:

Lovely photos - keep them coming! Would love to see one of them sitting side by side, when you can catch them!! :thumbright: :thumbright: :thumbright:

This posting gladdens my heart because no matter how people judge us we are only there to make sure the dog is right and so is the home.
Arlyn is an avid supporter of rescue I am sure she has been frustrated in recent months as dogs came and went but I knew we had to get this right Arlyn was travelling a long way it was no good coming and having a wasted journey it was such a fantastic home and we needed to consider Buster as well last week I had to let Arlyn down on a girl and I am sure it was a sore point but I knew that dog wasnt right but I knew instictiively that Purdey was the right girl both for Buster and Arlyn.

I have to say Purdey is a goregous girl a total credit to her previous owner who is distraught to let her go but I really hope he will be assured that Purdey is in safe hands and take comfort from that.

Love and best wishes xxx
